Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Asian Handicap
- A type of bet that gives one team a virtual advantage or disadvantage, eliminating the draw option.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for betting activities.
- Bonus
- Extra funds credited by a sportsbook, often subject to conditions before you can withdraw.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or loss.
- Cashback
- A promotion that returns a portion of a player's losses over a specific period.
- Deposit Bonus
- A match of your deposit amount as bonus funds, requiring you to bet a certain amount before withdrawal.
- Free Bet
- A no-cost bet offered to customers, usually with restrictions on how it can be used.
- Futures
- A bet placed on an event that will be decided in the future, such as who wins the World Cup.
- In-Play
- Betting that takes place after a match has started, with odds that update as the game progresses.
- Juice
- The commission a sportsbook charges on a bet, built into the odds.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win a match, with odds shown as a positive or negative number.
- Odds
- The probability of an outcome expressed as a number, determining how much you can win relative to your stake.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals/points in a match will be higher or lower than a set line.
- Parlay
- A single bet that combines multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, offering higher odds.
- Point Spread
- A handicap added to the favored team to make the bet even for both sides.
- Prop Bet
- A wager on a specific occurrence within a match, like which player scores first.
- Provably Fair
- A system that lets players verify that each game result was generated fairly, using cryptographic proof.
- Roll Over
- The requirement to bet a certain total amount before withdrawing bonus funds.
- RTP
- Return to Player: the percentage of total bets a game will pay back to players over time.
- Unit
- A standard bet size, often a fixed percentage of your bankroll, used to manage risk.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving an edge.
- Volatility
- A measure of how often and how much a game can pay out; high volatility means bigger but less frequent wins.
- Wagering Requirement
- The number of times you must bet a bonus before you can withdraw any winnings from it.
